The phone we’ve been waiting for: Sony Ericsson W800i

What’s so cool about this phone? Walkman. Yes, Walkman. And not some pussy 128mb mp3 player, this baby is packed with 512mb of storage, or about 10 hours of music. Holy cow. Now, I know what you’re thinking, what good is 10 hours of music if it kills the batteries on my phone? How did I know you were thinking that? You may never know. But rest assured that the Sony Ericsson W800i is equipped with a 15 hour batter life when you leave the phone function on, and, if you turn off the phone function to save battery, your walkman will last a whopping 30 hours. We say again, holy cow.

Plus it’s a 2 mega-pixel digital camera with video capability. The pictures come out very crisp. There’s two quality settings, one for emails and one for, uh, posterity, I guess, that is a much higher resolution. There are also a number of settings, flash, no flash, out doors and even an auto focus, which is key for camera phones, as anyone who owns one will attest. Of course there’s email access along with all the regular bells and whistles, and it’s blue tooth and infra-red ready. The phone also comes with a fast USB connector for all those pictures, videos, and MP3 files and cool Sony Walkman headphones so everybody knows that you’re cool. The only thing I would change about the phone is the bright orange casing, which is a little gaudy, but I hear that a lot of people think it’s cool too.

The one thing we thought was lacking was the quality of speakers. For a Walkman, very low. The headphones worked all right, but it was worthless without them in terms of sound quality. But, overall we’d say this is a big winner.
