The Meta Events Dream Gadget: The Lap Pilot
Occasionally you’ve got to ask yourself, what do you really want in a gadget? You have to set the standards high. As the bible says, those who are expected to do much are given much. The Lap Pilot would be a high powered PDA. It would have big hard drive, maybe 10 or 20GB, cause you never know what you’re going to have to store. What’s more, it has a docking slot for a 5GB flash drive that doubles as an MP3 player, a la iPod shuffle. So why put the flash drive into the PDA? A) to quickly transfer all of the files on the flash drive onto your hard drive. B) to get the benefit of the full color display and easy controls to manage your MP3s. C) the Lap Pilot would have sweet speakers.
The Lap Pilot would be Bluetooth ready as well to interface with a load of great accessories like the Bluetooth headset, the Bluetooth keyboard, and the Bluetooth Mouse. I considered the possibility of a Bluetooth monitor, but I got a better idea: The fold-out monitor. The concept is this: you use a very thin and strong optic LCD membrane to display data. It folds neatly inside the Lap Pilot, so if you need to conserve space you can use the standard screen. But, when you push the button, the screen flips out via umbrella-like wires, spreading out its plumage like a computerized peacock. The screen would be about 14 inches when fully extended, or roughly the size of a large lap top display, hence the name Lap Pilot.
Of course the Lap Pilot could be configured with just about any web browser imaginable and would come with a full flip out QWERTY keyboard in case you can’t lug around the Bluetooth board. It would come with a broadband wireless internet connection capable of streaming audio and video and downloading files wirelessly via the net at least 300kb/s. If you need faster, well, that’s what the flash dock is for.

In terms of battery power, the Lap Pilot would last at least 24 hours even at full energy usage. It could be charged either by USB, by wall charger, or by the solar panel on the back of the fold out screen.
