Bose QuietComfort Acoustic Noise Canceling headset
This is one nifty piece of equipment. I know it’s not a PDA or a Cell phone or anything, but it’s still damn cool. Head sets such as this one are starting to build up a clientele with the business class for two obvious reasons: #1 they can afford $300 headphones. #2 Airplanes. The idea behind the Bose QuietComfort headset is that it reads outside sounds and produces an equal and opposite sound wave to counteract it, a phenomenon known as “anti-noise.” It sounds a little weird, but trust us, it works. The anti-noise system completely washes out any outside noise, including your teenager’s rap music, your nagging wife, your neighbor’s dog, and yes, the 2-ton jet engines of a Boeing 757.
When you turn the noise cancellation system on, it’s like being sucked into a soundless vortex or having your ears in an isolation chamber. It’s very surreal, almost Zen. This sensation is probably worth the price tag by itself. When you turn on the music, the sound is clear and untarnished for the most part. At the highest ranges of sound, the treble becomes a little tinny, and you actually lose some of the lowest lines of base resonance. But if you’re sick of outside noises, it’s worth it.
